World Suicide Prevention Day 2019
10 September 2019

On World Suicide Prevention Day, we are reflecting on James’ Place Liverpool’s first full year of operation, having provided a safe, therapeutic intervention to over 150 men in suicidal crisis to date. Following the latest Office for National Statistics suicide data, it is deeply concerning to see the rise in suicides in the UK, and that the rise in the male suicide rate persists. However, we are cautiously encouraged by data from Merseyside and Cheshire that suggests there is a reduction in the male suicide rate locally.

When James’ Place Charity began looking for a home for the first James’ Place, one of the reasons Liverpool was chosen was because of the clearly innovative approach to suicide prevention that was a product of the expertise and commitment of the mental health community in Merseyside.

Our wish now is to open more James’ Places across the country, making our unique service available to more men in suicidal crisis.
