Daniel's story
James' Place
04/06/26

34 year old Daniel from Wrexham came to James’ Place Liverpool for help.
“I’ve a rough few years, a couple of years ago I attempted suicide. Things had continued to be difficult in my life, and then I started to get those feelings again, it was like déjà-vu and I thought I’ve been here before. I was drinking too much, being horrible to everyone, not eating, I could feel myself going under. I went to the GP but all he could do was get me a urgent mental health appointment four months later. I knew I needed help earlier than that so I googled and found James’ Place in Liverpool. I didn’t really expect them to be able to help me because I live in Wrexham which is an hour away by train but I was in to see them within a couple of days. I’ve had counselling before but this felt different, they were helping me because they wanted to, rather than because they had to. It made such a difference to me that they got back to me quickly and were happy to help, I would’ve travelled as far as Scotland to get help if I’d had to. I had around seven sessions and I felt a lot better afterwards – my therapist was so helpful, pleasant and kind, she helped me make sense of what I was feeling, and access further help after my therapy ended. Life is still tough but I’m doing better at dealing with it now, and it’s reassuring to know that help is out there.”
