Government backs mandatory suicide prevention training for social workers
James' Place 22/10/26
We at James’ Place are in full support of yesterday’s government backing for mandatory suicide prevention training for social workers.
Our CEO Ellen O’Donoghue has provided this response:
“We are delighted to hear the Prime Minister’s commitment to suicide prevention today and his backing for mandatory training for social workers. At James’ Place we ask that this is extended to all professionals in contact with people in vulnerable situations, and stress that this training must be backed up by rapid access to appropriate services and support.
We know that men in suicidal crisis may be in contact with a range of different services and it is vital that they are met with recognition and understanding at the point they need it most.”
