Malik's story
James' Place

“Last year I lost my mum. It was a really hard time for me. There were some other issues happening in the family, things were difficult financially and I just couldn’t cope. I wasn’t able to continue with my studies, I stopped working and I was at home all day sleeping, I barely left the house. Eventually I couldn’t take feeling this way anymore and I started to think about taking my own life. Luckily I went to my GP and he referred me to James’ Place. When I first went to the centre in London I couldn’t believe how nice it was inside, it was so comfortable, everyone there was so hospitable and kind. The therapy I received was amazing, I started to feel a lot better and I learnt different techniques to get me through difficult moments. Towards the end of my treatment I went back to work and started running. I’m hoping to start my studies again next year, I’ve taken up swimming and football to keep myself busy. I feel more able to cope and much more positive since going to James’ Place and I can really see a change in myself. They helped me get through a difficult time when I didn’t want to be here anymore and I’m really grateful.”
