Men's Health Strategy

Today on International Men’s Day the Government has launched the Men’s Health Strategy for England. This is the first time men’s health has a dedicated national strategy, recognising the urgent need to improve health and wellbeing of the nation’s men and prevent premature deaths from suicide and illness.
James’ Place is proud to have played a part in this strategy, sharing our knowledge about what works in preventing suicide in men, and to be included as an example of best practice. We hope this strategy will have a profound impact on the wellbeing of men and boys, and contribute to a significant reduction in the number of men who die by suicide every year.
Our Chief Executive Ellen O’Donoghue said: “We’re pleased to see suicide prevention at the heart of the new men’s health strategy. To stop men dying by suicide, targeted support, such as the free, life-saving therapy we offer at James’ Place, needs to be available quickly for men where and when they need it. Health and social inequalities increase suicide risk, so we’re pleased that funding will be available for projects targeting middle aged men in the most deprived communities. This strategy is a step in the right direction in preventing men dying by suicide.”
