Our Statement on Papyrus' Closure
James' Place
08/09/26

We were shocked and saddened to hear about the sudden closure of Papyrus this morning.
Papyrus offered a much-needed service to young people at risk of suicide, and we have been proud to work alongside them in our shared mission to prevent suicide.
Our thoughts are with our friends, colleagues and the entire team at Papyrus, who have helped so many young people when they needed it most. We want any young person in crisis to be able to get the support they need quickly, and we will be working with our partners to make sure that help is available.
At James’ Place we offer free, life-saving therapy to men in suicidal crisis age 18+. Please do reach out to us via our website jamesplace.org.uk/get-support if you need support.
Urgent support is also available from Samaritans on 116 123, text SHOUT to 85258, or contact the NHS on 111 and select option two for mental health. You can also go to your nearest walk-in centre or A&E.
Other charities offering help include Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) 0800 58 58 58 (5pm-midnight) and for under 25s, The Mix – text THEMIX to 85258 or visit their website here.
You can also find other sources of support via Hub of Hope.
