33 year old plumber Thomas came to James’ Place for free, life-saving therapy after experiencing a suicidal crisis. See the full story below:

“Throughout my life, I have carried struggles that I’ve not dealt with, including years of childhood trauma. In November 2024, a chapter in my life came to an end, and I attempted suicide. Luckily enough I was given another chance at life and was referred to James’ Place where I worked with a therapist called Sarah. The methods Sarah used helped me separate each emotion in my head, which helped me to talk about so much that I was wanting to say for a long time. At the end of my therapy I walked away in a better place than I first arrived, comforted by the thought that James’ Place would be there if I ever needed them again.

Two years later I found myself slowly creeping into a crisis again after some difficult events, pressure of everyday life and commitments, adjusting to a new environment, and trying to be strong for my loved ones who were going through a tough time, all got too much.  I was referred to the pilot satellite service in Darlington and saw Vicki. This time round the cards really helped me see how one emotion could lead to another. Vicki gave me some honest feedback about some of the unhelpful ways I was thinking about things and how to change that. I now have a much different view of myself. I never thought I was good enough and thought I wasn’t as strong as I know I am today. I am not ashamed of my trauma. I know one day I’ll be the person that I am truly am inside, and I started day one of that journey at James’ Place.”
